News has just come in that a pair of tusks have been stolen from the natural history museum at Dhangadi gate on Wednesday (June 11 night) . The tusks, collectively weighing over 30 kgs, are believed to belonged to Lord Jim, a mammoth tusker that died while fighting another male, in a battle that lasted over two days.
The incident is shocking to say the least, and a very worrying indicator of how the security in what we believe to the best protected parks in India has slackened. There is also news that about six poachers belonging to the bawaria community have been apprehended in and around the park in the past few days. Also refer to my Corbett story also posted on the site. The case was registered by the Najibabbad DFO, Anupam Gupta, and was done with teh help of WPSI.
